David Did It! 12 Tips for Xmas to Find Your Next Career Move Before 2026

It was Dec 2023 that I decided to make a career move and sat down to think what that would look like. That decision launched my career forward and now I have a business I am excited to work at every day (mainly thanks to my team, clients and candidates).

The festive season is upon us, and while most people are winding down, it’s actually the perfect time to get a head start on your next career move. Whether you’re actively searching or just thinking about new opportunities for 2026, these 12 tips, one for each of the 12 days of Christmas, will help you step into the new year with confidence and momentum.

1. Polish Your CV Like a Christmas Decoration

Give your CV a festive shine! Make sure it’s up-to-date, free of typos, and highlights your achievements from 2025. A little sparkle can make you stand out from the crowd.

2. Update Your LinkedIn – Santa’s Watching!

Refresh your LinkedIn profile with a new photo, recent skills, and those hard-won successes. Recruiters (and maybe Santa) are checking their lists twice! Having Linked In Premium I love seeing the people and companies that look at our page – we know your watching 🤣

3. Network at Christmas Parties (Yes, Really!)

Seasonal socials aren’t just for mince pies, mention your ambitions in conversation. You never know who might have the perfect lead.

4. Send a Festive ‘Hello’ to Old Colleagues

Drop a friendly message or e-card to former colleagues. Reconnecting can lead to unexpected opportunities and helpful introductions. I love keeping tough with all the contacts, colleagues and connections I have made over the years.

5. Set a ‘New Year, New Me’ Goal

Write down your career goals for 2026. Having clear intentions attracts the right opportunities and keeps you focused.

6. Don’t Ghost Recruiters (We’re Not the Grinch!)

If a recruiter reaches out, reply, even if you’re not interested right now. Keeping doors open is always a good idea.

7. Research Companies While Bingeing Xmas Films

Combine downtime with productivity! Check out potential employers while enjoying your favourite festive films. Set up alerts for your Job Market or get your recruiter to refresh your requirements.

8. Practice Your Interview examples in the Mirror (Santa Hat Optional)

A little rehearsal can boost your confidence and help you shine in interviews, Santa hat purely optional! Great way to think of ideas and ways questions may be asked and how best to answer them. We always recommend having some experiences you can pull from that can be applied to a number of questions.

9. Sign Up for Job Alerts (and Check Your Spam Folder!)

Set up job alerts and remember to check your spam folder so you don’t miss out on any golden opportunities.

10. Ask for Feedback, It’s the Gift That Keeps on Giving

Seek feedback from past interviews or your current boss. Honest feedback is invaluable for growth.

11. Treat Yourself to a Skills Upgrade

Use the holiday break to take a short course or attend a webinar. Upskilling now can pay off big in the new year.
