Interview Tips – An Introduction
Hello! I wanted to launch the resources for candidates section with some short and sweet tips on nailing your interview. I will be following up on this section with blogs such as; “Great Interview Questions”, “What to ask and not ask in an Interview” and “How to assess the right offer for you”.
Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting your career journey, nailing that interview is key to landing your dream role. At Hawthorne-Finch Talent Solutions, we’re all about helping you shine bright like the diamonds you are (totally intentional Rihanna reference). So, without further ado, here are our top 5 tips for acing interviews in the UK HR & Legal sector:
Do Your Homework
Knowledge is power, folks. Before your interview, take the time to research the company inside and out. Get to know their values, culture, recent projects, and any industry trends that might be relevant. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be to impress your interviewers. If you have any uncertainty ask your Recruiter we always have the juicy gossip!
Showcase Your Skills
In the HR & Legal sectors, technical expertise is key. Make sure to highlight your relevant skills and experiences during the interview. Whether it’s your knack for employee relations or your confidence in contract law, don’t be shy about showing off what you bring to the table. This people really struggle with. Why? Cause we are raised and encouraged that celebrating about our successes and accomplishments is distasteful and bragging. It is not, trust me we will show you benefits and manner to get your amazing skills and personality across without feeling cheesy or try hard. Its all about facts, honesty and articulating your wins. Gone are the days of the need to embellish your experience, show the skills you have discuss the areas you want to grow from the interview, this allows the company to see where you will go with their team not just what you bring to the table.
Dress to Impress
You know what they say: dress for the job you want, not the job you have. When it comes to interviews, first impressions count. Opt for professional attire that reflects the culture of the company you’re interviewing with. Remember, it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.
Prepare for Behavioural Questions
In addition to technical questions, you can expect to be asked about your past experiences and how you’ve handled certain situations. Be ready to share examples of challenges you’ve faced, how you overcame them, and what you learned in the process. Remember, it’s not just about what you’ve done, but how you’ve done it. Always be solutions focussed. PAS – Problem, Action, Solution. It can also be a time the solution didn’t work but you need to demonstrate the lesson learnt and how that positively impacted the next time you came across the situation.
Ask Thoughtful Questions
An interview is a two-way street. Don’t forget to come prepared with questions of your own. This shows your interest in the role and the company and gives you valuable insight into whether it’s the right fit for you. Ask about the team dynamics, opportunities for growth, and the company’s future plans. I will do a later post on suggestions for these however if you want to discuss today give me a call!
So there you have it, our top 5 tips for smashing interviews in the UK HR & Legal sector. Remember, confidence is key, so go forth, be yourself, and show them why you’re the perfect fit for the job.
